Store description

Much better than joyless the parking in the basement and paying at the booth to go up for That View of Joburg is this fun option. You meet Main Street Walks at Maboneng on market day, Sunday. After stuffing your picnic basket, provided as a gift, you walk together to the Carlton with it (kids have backpacks) and take the lift to the 50th floor.

There are telescopes on the viewing deck. There is also always an expert booked to give an interesting and short talk, eg Climate Change in South Africa or What Beadwork Designs really mean. The meal you buy at the market is up to you and any wine you bring is fine too. The walk and event is R220 and children R90. Of course, it’s different every time because you choose different food and the speaker is another one.

They provide you with a picnic basket containing some eating utensils and a blanket . They then give you 30 minutes to peruse the marketonmain and you can add what you like at your own cost into your baskets.

Once you have purchased your food parcels of choice, they hitch a lift up to the top of Africa at the Carlton Centre building on the 50th floor, for a picnic. Guests are welcome to bring their own wine. There is a bar with drinks available.

Guests are to meet at 11am at the Market and expect to be done by 2pm. Guest speakers will also give you a short talk on the City, from their perspective, 222ms above Small Street Mall.

The Picnics in the Sky tour takes place every Sunday and every 1st Thursday of the month for the night Picnics In The Sky (email bookings are essential for these)
