With a focus on piquant Mediterranean flavours, Polana serves up both fantastic drinking food (think pan-fried calamari stuffed with anchovy and chorizo), and generously portioned surf and turf favourites like free-range pasture-fed cuts of meat or West Coast mussels steamed in a sublime white wine cream sauce.
Recognising that you're just as likely to come here to drink as to eat, the excellent wine list is complemented by a slew of delicious cocktails.
The main dining area’s great friendly service can trip up a bit as it enters the fray of the drinks lounge, but what's the rush?
With a third of the room consisting of glass walls overlooking the sea, Polana takes beach glam to a transcendent height. Comfy couches and romantic nooks invite you to linger for live music and DJs.
The entire restaurant is a smoking section: don't say you weren't warned. (LM, October 2012)
I'm always sceptical of restaurants with excellant views as they often tend to have very mediocre food and service. Sad to say, Polana lived up to this stereotype. A large group of us had dinner for a friend's birthday, and the service was in a word, shocking. Having arrived at 8pm, the evening started off with insufficient seating, despite the fact we had reserved a table for 20. After more than an hour of waiting, we finally had to ask for some bread, and dinner itself arrived well after 10pm! Had it not been a friend's birthday, I honestly would not have bothered. The ambience and location are just fantastic – such a pity that the restaurant rests on these laurels.
Extremely dissappointed! Polana's has no appropriate booking system! Made a timeous booking on Tuesday, 21 June 2011 for the Thursday evening. Provided my details and contact number and was assured the booking had been captured. Called on Thursday to confirm and guess what? "There is no booking under that name". I am so dissappointed and embarassed as I (and another 4 people) have been anticipating this event for the entire month as we were eager to sample the "R50 special" advertised. Finally our schedules are in tune and now I have to contact these people and tell them we can't celebrate our special occasion. Very unprofessional Polana! Am extremely dissappointed! If the booking service is unprofessional, I fear what the service would've been like ...
Dear Alex. We are disappointed that we did not manage to please you entirely. We are serious about what we do, so please contact me at email@example.com and we will rectify the matter.Best wishes
Just for drinks and a great vibe and relaxing atmosphere, its perfect! As for the food, had my first and last experience - extremely disappointing, everything was over cooked and completely unappetizing! As far as the wait staff, they got the job done, eventually but seem more relaxed than their patrons! Very disappointing
This restaurant has a weak reservations-taking system. It fails to warn its patrons that they will be placed next to an excruciatingly loud jazz bad in a smoking-only area. And, to top it off, the waiting staff and management demonstrate a stinkingly bad attitude by insisting that this isnt a mistake. Very poor.
There is no better place than Polanas to spend an afternoon and evening, lazing away and staring at the waves foaming just meters from your seat. With fishbowl wine glasses and delectable tapas, its the first place I think of when I need a quick escape from a hard day at work.
Polana is an absolute gem! Every time I have been there it has been an exquisite experience - the setting is breathtaking with a relaxing & happy vibe, the food & cocktails are delish, and the staff are friendly. Oh and I keep going back for the best spicy prawns in town ,-)
