Food
If you kick off with their meze, that’s all you might get to. From their fried brinjal and skordalia dip, all made in-house, to their halloumi cheese with grape chutney... the list runs long and in many variations: from a meze/tapas platter to the more unusual pikilia platter (three dips or pickles with herbed pita).

Their Spanish prawn starter pops with flavour while many travel for their prawn curry. Meat plays a huge part here. There's the lamb kleftiko, exquisitely made, with their lamb chops served with spiced lentils, tahini yoghurt, Greek lemon and potatoes a hot item; the Klein Karoo ostrich fillet with honey, soy and star anise reduction with crushed wasabi potatoes. Delicious desserts include the Greek milktart galaktoboureko and to top it, they make their own thick Greek yoghurt.

Wine
The list is extensive, catering for every taste and pocket, and their wine by-the-glass selection is excellent. Chef Patron Dino Fagas delights in doing food and wine pairings on a regular basis.

Service
They’re alert to their diners’ needs.

Ambience
Interiors that are unique and sassy; contemporary with a chic yet comfy style, and they embrace family dining as well as romantic couples. The space allows for this generous mix.

And…
Take a close look at their personalised menu, which says everything about the restaurant and its owner. It’s informative and quirky.

The wide-ranging menu at Prosopa in Waterkloof Heights in Pretoria means everyone will find something they like, whether in a group with friends or on a romantic date night, says Eat Out critic Mokgadi Itsweng.

    Food
Prosopa’s imaginative Mediterranean menu boasts a range of dishes from Greece, Portugal and Spain. A variety of very pleasing starters will form the ideal base for a tapas evening with friends. Try the fried brinjals with a creamy dip, or the delicious croquettes stuffed with feta and gruyère cheese. For mains, there’s a wide selection, but I recommend their signature dish, the lamb kleftiko, and the chocolate-chilli beef fillet, which is served with spiced cabbage and lemon potatoes. If you’re out with kids, the bifteki burger is perfect for light eaters: the patty comes stuffed with feta and is served with marinated peppers, zucchini and fried potatoes. For dessert, try the galaktoboureko, a Greek milktart-type dessert made with custard, phyllo pastry and honey syrup, served here with fennel and citrus ice cream.

    Drinks
They stock an extensive selection of local and international wines, most offered by the glass. Should you want a bottle that is not included on the list, a corkage fee of R98 is charged per bottle.

    Service
Very good service, with a hands-on manager present to ensure the quality of the dining experience.

    Ambience
The atmosphere at Prosopa is formal, yet still relaxed and intimate. The white tablecloths create an elegant ambience, and the fireplace in the middle of the restaurant adds warmth and intimacy in the colder months. Private booths make this a cosy and romantic spot, perfect for date night.

    Food
Owner Dino Fagas is probably his own toughest taskmaster, so expect a classy experience. The food ranges from a super mezze selection that includes crunchy squid heads, marinated feta or peppers, taramasalata, tzatziki, chorizo or fried brinjals – all good picks. You might find yourself getting stuck because of the number of choices, but explore further, because anything from the osso buco to the moussaka would be a perfect pick. They have a strong meat selection, with the kleftiko (traditional Greek lamb) a good choice, but the lamb shank is also a winner. For something sweet, the galaktoboureko, their version of a Greek milk tart in phyllo pastry, drenched in sticky syrup, is irresistible. Expect a quality experience with food that is both classic and comforting.

    Drinks
Guests are spoiled for choice with many wine options served by the glass. Watch out for their wine and food evenings.

    Service
With staff that stay for many years and understand the needs of their patrons, they don’t miss a beat.

    Ambience
This eatery falls in a class of its own, with a strong individual look. It’s a simple, strictly cream-coloured space with clean lines. In winter they warm the interior with a central fire, in summer light streams in to create the feeling of light and space.

    And…
Also check out the Italian Al Dente next door, which has been added to the Fagas stable. You can order from either menu, so adults could be dining on Greek cuisine while the kids enjoy pizza.

They're in a class of their own in what they're attempting to do. It's cool, classic and chic. They have a very special restaurant both in design and cuisine with quality the ingredient that drives their passion. Their interiors have been similar from their beginnings and yet there's a classic contemporary feel that makes it stand out. Their meze is a fun option and will give you an idea, but you should actually ask the chef-patron to guide you on the day.
  • Cool, classic and chic. Meze is a fun option, but ask the chef-patron to guide you. Their meat dishes are Greek-inspired but their reach is Mediterranean.(EO mag 2014)
  • Food
With Dino Fagas in charge, food is the superstar at this laid-back but smartly run emporium. Hit a home run with their meze selection, or explore further and you will be licking the plate for the last of the osso bucco. With their Greek heritage, you can’t go wrong with the comforting moussaka, but the options are many and well worth the time. They have a classical approach to dining and it shows.

    Wine
It’s a smart selection with many options served by the glass.

    Service
    They don’t miss a beat.

    Ambience
The innovative interiors have passed the test of time and the sleek and sassy lines are as unusual as they were seven years ago. It says what this place is all about: a sense of style with a strong individual slant.

  • I took my girlfriend for dinner at Prosopa on Friday evening. We drove 2hours for this special dinner and boy were we surprised. The quility of wine they have is unbelievable. We had a nice Red Cab Sauv with the special of the night. 200g of the best beef fillet, a slice of cheese and a perfect black peppercorn sauce. It came with the most amazing little potato squares which had a hint of lemon and fresh greenbeans cooked in garlic. The meal was to die for. The best part came with the dessert. I had a soft smooth chocolate cheese cake. My girlfriend had one of their special deserts. A berry meringue. O wow, what a treat that was. I even put my finger in the plate after she finished. Dino came to great us at the table. We had a nice chat and after hearing it was our first time at his restaurant, he sent us an amazing starter. A crispy eggplant sliced chips with garlic and cheese on top. He converted me to eat eggplant after trying this starter. Our experience was truly magical and would recommend everyone to go and try some of his food creations. Thank you Dino!!

  • After reading about Prosopa in Eat Out, my husband and I decided to treat ourselves for our 14 year anniversary and what better place as we love Greek / Mediterranean food. The food was perfection. I had the lamb kleftiko and my hubby had the chocolate chilli steak. The meals were both cooked to perfection and we will most definitely be visiting them again...next time with our kids

  • We were recommended Proposa by friends when looking for a good Greek restaurant in Pretoria. All the food was well-prepared and brought to our table timeously. We couldn't fault the service from our waiter or the manager Duncan, who is very knowledgeable about their wines and what to pair it with (they also have monthly wine pairing evenings). They do not only cater for the Greek experience, but Mediterranean as well, so you have a wide range of choices from the menu, or if their is something specific, ask the staff and they might be able to help. We had to change our reservation from the Saturday evening to Sunday lunch, due to conflicting appointments, but still managed to get a booth (would recommend this). They weren't too busy when we did go on the Sunday, but ambiance was still great, and would like to pay them a visit in the evening to compare.

  • My husband and I went here on a Sunday evening for our wedding anniversary and had the place almost entirely to ourselves. The ambiance was elegant and romantic and the food was delicious! We had a question about whether there was any MSG in the food as I am allergic and the chef came out personally to assure us that he is very careful with the ingredients he uses and does not believe in using MSG in his cooking. We felt very reassured. I ordered chicken stuffed with pesto and feta in a creamy tomato sauce and the flavors were amazing. So yummy. My husband had their specialty of stuffed lamb wrapped in leaves which was also perfectly done. We were very happy with our experience at Prosopa and will definitely be visiting again.

  • Saturday February 3rd. Absolutely superb evening, first time at the restaurant and from the personal greeting at the door to the time we left we were impressed with the food, the service and the lovely relaxing atmosphere. The chef came to check if our table was happy with the specials he'd prepared and the owner advised us on wines as the list was truly superb but far too many stunning wines to choose from. Chicken Parfait to start with was awesome and my fillet was one of the best I have had in many years. Our fellow guests all raved about our evening and their dishes and we all tried different things from the varied menu and a few specials that the chef had recommended. We will be back very soon and most definitely for the forthcoming wine nights. A great evening, thank you.

  • Worst food and service in a long time. Our book club once-a-year dinner was spoilt by waiting 1 1/2 hours for food (food received at 22,10). Salmon that was cold in the middle and when warmed up was watery and hard on the outside. Owner trying to make excuses by asking if we had had a starter as that would have 'kept us busy' while the main course was being prepared! No refilling of drinks, no coming to ask if all was ok, no gestures to make amends or showing that our table of 8 was important to them and the restaurant was not even busy. Not surprised about that! This restaurant does not deserve to be in business. There are many good ones around who provide stunning service and food! We won't be back and we will tell whoever we can!

  • I booked my wedding reception at Prosopa 1 and a half months before the big day as I decided to change my venue at pretty much the last minute . Dino was so helpful and made the whole planning process entertaining! My reception looked absolutely stunning (it is a beautiful restaurant after all) and he helped with decor and table settings on the day even though it was contracted to someone else. The food was outstanding - every guest of mine complimented it and I agree 100% and we had a choice of 4 mains! The service was fantastic - plated food delivered (hot) to 119 guests with no delays! The most beautiful atmosphere and the owner, Dino, was there to help with everything! So many compliments were received about the reception and the fact that weddings should be held at restaurants like this as its much more atmospheric, cosy and romantic! There arent enough words to say just how stunning Prosopa looked, how well we were treated, how divine the food was and how brilliant the service was. Well done to team Prosopa - I cant wait to come for dinner again soon!! To all brides - SERIOUSLY consider this as a reception venue!!
