Critic's review

This Clanwilliam institution embraces the old-school steakhouse formula, with a menu that revolves around the fiery grill. Apart from a few token pastas and poultry options, expect hefty steaks and racks of lamb chops served with veggies and chips. Low on frills and big on portions… just how the locals love it.

A fair selection of estates at decent prices. BYO if you fancy something special.

Large portions of efficient, small-town hospitality.

A time-warp to the 70s, but that’s half the charm of this long-running local favourite.

All meals can be ordered as half-portions, for two-thirds of the price. (RH, October 2011)

  • Definitely the best in Clan William! Considering that all the other eateries we tried could best be described as Ballast Only. The rare ostrich was excellent and the veg was al dente to our surprise. My partner had a huge pizza that was not cooked through and it had cold sweetcorn sprinkled on top. Very strange! They overdid the plate garnish. The waitress was very funny, she would always ask if we liked it or loved it!
