Located in the heart of Kloof Street, Stacked Diner is a light and airy open-plan space with a contemporary, modern design based on the traditional diner theme. Opened in November 2016, the store’s colour scheme of grey, yellow and white is fresh, clean and simple while being inviting and friendly.
The store’s inside eating area includes bright yellow, back-to-back booth seating. Black dome lighting, light plywood tables and white and yellow chairs finish the feeling of a current but relaxed space. There is also a newly paved outside area where you can get up close and personal with the energy of Kloof Street while dining Al Fresco. Pets are welcomed guests in the outside area and the store provides a handy water bowl should man’s best friend need to rehydrate.

Such a gem Cape Town! Really amazing food, fantastic service and friendly staff. This diner serves really affordable food that's super tasty. ❤
One sunny Saturday we went to enjoy the sun and Stacked was the 1 and only option really for what we were wanting. A delicious meal that hinted at the summer coming but left us feeling warm as it is after all still winter.
The bright restaurant is a sun-shine filled modern interpretation of the classic 50's diner, with canary yellow booths and natural wood topped tables. There is a small outdoor sitting area however we opted for an indoor table and were helped by a very cheerful waiter who only enhanced the summery feel leaving you feeling that nothing would be too much to ask.
The menu is simple and although there isn't a lot on it, you can combine the options to create numerous options and you could probably return everyday and try something new. we opted for burgers and that was by far the easiest choice to make as the real tough part is the toppings and sauces. Combining these flavours is where magic can truly happen and it's all up to you. Having already decided on bacon and cheese we were left to decide how best to compliment it with the available options. Sweet chilli mayo to bring out the cheese? Dijon mustard to compliment the beef? Jalapeno's maybe to bring a little heat to the bun... the options really are numerous and you can choose as many of the free toppings and sauces as you like and feel free to ask for extra sauces on the side for dunking those crispy chips in.
The price on these delicious Kloof Street buns is also amazing considering that prices in town seem to be creeping ever higher for a meal made with love which these buns definitely were.
If I had to find something negative it may be that parking on Kloof street can be tricky to find and the bathroom has 1 stall per gender which could result in ques when busy but that is truly knit-picking as we couldn't fault the burgers, the friendly service or the sunny atmosphere within the fabulous little restaurant and will definetly be going back to find the perfect burger and try those desserts.
After Jerry's we took a short walk up Kloof Street to satisfy our sweet tooth at Stacked Diner. I loved the vibrant yellow colours softened by the feather grey interior. We ordered the lemon meringue, chocolate hazel and the apple pie waffles. My favourite was the apple pie. Perfect to lighten any grey wintery day! And we gulped down the delicious sweet pastries with tea and hot chocolate. We will soon be stacking our tummies again with their delectable waffles!
