What a nasty, bitter and sneering 1-star review below.
I shudder to imagine how many people it has turned away.
Starlings Locale (sister restaurant to Starlings on Belevedere Rd) is a beautiful, serene, slice of heaven nestled away from the noise of Claremont in a quiet street just off Protea Road.
The atmosphere is uplifting and heart-expanding.
The food is consistently superb, using ethically sourced ingredients.
I have never had a bad experience, despite visiting regularly.
That said, the service is average. One of the waiters is perennially inattentive, but the cafe is so charming and the food so soul-nourishing that it has never bothered me.
The coffee is not to my taste, although some who have dined with me have enjoyed it. The previous roaster, Origin, was much better. I found the light roast somewhat green, acrid and grainy (undeveloped) - a symptom of many of the 'best' light roasters in Cape Town.
Still, this is a minor grievance; after all, I keep coming back, time and time again.
I can't recommend this beautiful little cafe with its lovely setting and excellent food more strongly.
