Critic's review

A popular breakfast and brunch spot with croissants and omelettes stuffed with fillings and goodness. The focus is on fresh, seasonal produce and wholesome fare in crunchy green salads, chunky sandwiches, baked potatoes and quiches – with pasta, line fish and curry for heartier appetites. Indulge in high tea with home-baked muffins, cheese and carrot cake, lemon tart and scones served with lashings of cream.

A small, affordable selection of house wines – with delectable Dom Pedro.

Friendly and homely. Catch up on the gossip with desperate housewives while the fare is made à la minute in the old country kitchen.

As cute as a cupcake and a tea cosy – a green comfort zone set in an old Victorian cottage nestled among boutique art and craft shops.

Book a table on the covered patio or on the delightful garden terrace under the oaks. (GH, September 2010)

  • A favourite breakfast haunt for our family, The Gardener's Cottage serves the best eggs Benedict in the 'burbs! They also do a mean lemon meringue pie. You generally need to book - ask for a table outside if the weather is good. There is a small play area outside for littlies with a few wooden animals to climb on.
