Come hungry! What a gem of a place.. you sit with your feet in the sand and you overlook the beach and the coastal forest. The food is such a nice surprise. For R210 pp you eat until you crawl out! Prawns, pesto's, bunny chow's, taco's and roasted camembert to name a few. To top it all we were treated to Camembert and rosemary ice cream - just out of this world. Jen, the manager has a very charming way about her, and she really is the spirit of the Shack. I would highly recommend the Prawn Shack, but do make a reservation in advance.
Although the ambience is very relaxed, the views awesome, the bar downstairs cool, this will never make up for the drive. The food is way below par, the facilities shabby to say the least, the toilets seriously gross, and the alcohol expensive. Save your money, eat somewhere else.
Most disappointing in the quantity of food. I was led to believe that the Shack was well known for it's quality and QUANTITY of prawns, what a shame to travel 90 ks from Durban only to be told I must accept the servings as a food TASTING, what rot. I came for a meal not a tasting.
If the servings which now cost R185-00, go back to what made them famous I will go back but otherwise I would not waste my time.

Laid back and casual with a great vibe and incredible views of the ocean and lagoon. Dress down, kick back, relax and enjoy the experience.

Whilst the Prawn Shack is a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the food and ambience is great, it is not child friendly as advertised on many websites. It should read no children under 12 as there have been too many negligent incidents of younger children getting hurt by the broken glass on the floor and even burnt by the staff throwing out hot coal onto the sand. Nice place if you over 12.
