I really like this spot. Although it gets busy when there's a rugby or cricket game at Newlands, it's lovely when it's quiet - especially the little semi-hidden, very shaded outside area, like a little Bier Garten. Food selection is pretty broad, which is great for groups: something for everything. I particularly like the burgers and the ribs. Good spot!
Arrived to Slug and Lettuce Newlands for lunch on 6/12/16 . Must have been the sum total of 1 other table occupied. So one would expect speedy and exceptional service, being quiet and in peak season. Quite the contrary. Other than the slow service, meal quality was dismal to say the least. Over cooked chicken schnitzel, Extremely salty calamari swimming in oil. The chicken livers managed to regain some of Slug and lettuces dignity. I must say, it was easily one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had this year. Will not be returning. Let this be a warning to future diners, don't expect any miracles.
Very cool place to go for Stormers games, both pre and post game. If keen on spotting a Stormer, stick to the post game drinks. New outside area gives it a beer garden type vibe. Sometimes tricky to get a beer out there on match days, but it's certainly not due to a lack of effort from the staff. Burgers and pizzas are sensational. Beers are always cold and none of this poncy "We only sell draft beer" Cape Town crap. Wine glasses are not thimbles like in other places. Greg, your host, is a convivial fellow who will be there at the death!

Will definitely go back for the burger - perfecly delicious medium-rare with mushroom sauce and pizza was tasty too. Veg pizzas slightly pricey and tomato bredie okay-ish. Ambience pleasant informal, cafe style, and service wiling, friendly and efficient. Will go back.
