Owner's description

The Harbour Rock restaurant – known to the locals as simply The Rock – is situated on the top of the cliff overlooking the bustling Hermanus harbour. This is the ideal setting to take in the breathtaking two-hundred-and-eighty degree sea views across the bay; a view that is surpassed only by the restaurant’s ambience and highly acclaimed menu of seafood and grills.

for me the best seafood diner ever!
We had a fantastic evening at The Harbour Rock. The food was fantastic and the service was very good. The menu is quite small for the main meals but the sushi menu is very large. I had the small platter. It was delicious. One of the surprises was the pumpkin pie which is a side - its like a having a dessert The one thing i must say is that the staff are extremely polite and friendly. They went out of their way to say goodbye to us and help us when necessary. Will definitely be going back.
Great service, funny and friendly staff.Portions were well sized. The fish (Kingklip) was fresh and decorated in an array of gourmet-cooked vegetables. The sushi too was well worth it, especially enjoyed the variety they offered. Overall a great dining experience and I would love to return.
This is more a a commentary than a review. In Jan 2004 me and my wife had a seafood meal there which was a forgettable experience except for the fantastic view! It is therefor encouraging to see the better reviews posted more recently - I'd better go back there!
It cost an arm and a leg then, especially considering the average dishes and pathetic service but back then I got the impression that the place was quite new and inexperienced which, in all fairness, with certain exceptions most places in that region were not much better. Their advantage was that fantastic view which made you forget about the food and service.
We will always remember it nostalgically as my wife was, unbeknown to us, pregnant with our firstborn!!

One of my favourite restaurants in Hermanus. The sushi is world class, prepared by a Japanese master! And on Fridays (lunchtime only) the sushi is half price! There are also Thai chefs in the kitchen preparing authentic Thai curries, stir-fries and the most wonderful Tom Yum soups. The vibe is always good, service alway great and we are always delighted with the wonderful food. If you're after something more traditional like steak or prawns, that's great too.
