We went to Genki last night. Lovely setting with the cobble courtyard and jakaranda tree blooming. We had the tempura calamari, shank and pork dumplings. Steamed pork buns and for dessert ,the cheesecake deep fried. Food was very good . Buns could do with a bit of more sauce or slaw. My Japanese beer was just as good as any other beer. Waiter service was friendly and efficient. Nice laid back and also with great food and atmosphere. Thank you for making our evening great. Will be back.
Where do I start? The setting. We arrived just before sunset. Lovely cobble courtyard with the Jakaranda tree blooming. Well spaced tables. We started with the tempura calamari ,then the shank and pork dumplings. Pork steamed buns and for dessert was the deep fried cheesecake. Food was well prepared. Pork steamed buns would maybe need a bit of an extra sauce or slaw. I had a Japanese beer which was as good as any other beer. Waiters were friendly and efficient. Nice laid back atmosphere but with great food. Wife and I had a lovely time at Genki. Will be back.
The food here is spectacular! However the service is really slow and they seemed disinterested in me. The restaurant is beautifully located and has an amazing ambience.
Hidden inbetween the boutique shops in the heart of stellenbosch on a gorgeous cobble stone walk way you will find the hidden gem Genki . This is by far one of my favourite Asian restaurants. I absolutely love their food . Their dumplings are a must try on the menu and my favourite dish was the steamed bun with pork . The pork belly was cooked to a lovely crunch with a soft steamed bun and Asian salad to complete. The portion size was perfect for me because I don’t eat much and the dish was flavorful. Service is slightly slower and different here . Due to having 3 kitchens our dishes arrived at different times . Staff seemed uninviting at first but did warm up eventually. Overall a really great place to eat if you seeking a different flavour journey and style of food .
This is probably the place to have sushi in Stellenbosch. A cut little restaurant which has an initimate atomosphere. Theres two seperate restaurant areas for sitting - one appears to have more light and the other more dark so take this into account when booking. They have a wide variety of options. Recently they added Bao buns and potstickers to their speciality menu - these were sold out twice when visiting in July 2018. Happened to pass by today in August 2018 and they had the Bao and potstickers - both were okay - stick to the sushi.
