Hi Rudy. We're sorry to hear that! Did you get his name? We currently have an intern and an editorial assistant fact-checking restaurant info, but they are both women. Please supply more details so we can follow up. Thanks

In reply to <a href="https://www.eatout.co.za/article/bold-new-look-2014-eat-magazine/#comment-40915">Willie Fritz</a>.

Hi Willie
Thanks for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you don’t like the new format, but we like to think there’s still a good mix of the glitzy fine-dining restaurants and the small neighbourhood eateries in the magazine. The top 500 restaurants in the 2014 edition (rated by our panel of 50 food and restaurant industry experts) include everything from family pizzerias, humble bakeries and country-style farm eateries right up to the Top 10 restaurants. The main criteria was simple: they must serve delicious food!

We hope that you still find something of interest in the 2014 issue after further browsing, but we’ll take your thoughts into consideration for the next one.
All the best

Thanks for your feedback, Margie. You make some good points, which we'll take into consideration when designing the 2015 mag. All the best

I Dont like the new format for Eat Out 2014 at all. The restaurants are very difficult to find in this format as the layout is not logical. I prefer to have the restaurants categorised by name and area, rather than by type. If I were looking for a particular restaurant, I would have no idea whether to look for it in the category Bistro, Fine Dining or Mediterranean or whatever. Some restaurants may fall into both catergories. It is also a matter of opinion. If I have an "old Favourite" restaurant, regardless of whether it has won awards or not, I may want to simply look that up quickly, instead of having to wade through pages of catergories and then perhaps not find it there. The layout on each page is very bitty and difficult to read anyhow, I far preferred the old format which was laid out in a logical way.
In any case you have neglected to include one of the best restaurants in South Africa, namely the Boat House in Scarborough, which is probably even better than the Test Kitchen. If you have not heard of it or tried it, you really should reconsider publishing a comprehensive Eat Out guide.

I'm afraid I don't share your enthusiasm for the new format. I've been buying the magazine for many years, precisely because it was a very handy reference guide to good restaurants, not necessarily fine dining restaurants only.

I realise things have to change, but I for one will not be buying a magazine that only concentrates on the glitziest restaurants because info on those are very easy to obtain.

Sometimes one just wants to look for a good neighbourhood eatery, and so I suppose I'll just have to use your website for that. But I really liked browsing through the magazine. Don't want to be a wet blanket, but the change doesn't work for me, sorry.
