Cape Town diner leaves a R4,000 tip for charity

Massimo’s, one of Cape Town’s favourite pizza spots, has run a charity-based virtual pizza campaign since 2015. They had to put it on hold for lockdown – finding a new way give back – but with restaurants now open again, Massimo, Tracy and the rest of the team have been able to resume the pay-it-forward campaign where diners can buy virtual pizza slices and, for every six slices sold, the restaurant delivers an entire pizza to a local charity or organisation.

On Monday 26 October, the pizza restaurant received a massive contribution from a patron who added a generous R4,000 to their bill to go towards one of the charities.

“Sometimes we get a reminder that ‘angels’ exist… 400 #payitforward slices means we have 66 more pizzas to donate!!!” read the Massimo’s Instagram post.

The pay-it-forward campaign assists a list of Hout Bay people and organisations in need. These include: The Fire & Police service, victims of fire/flood/storms, Hout Bay Snipers Basketball Club, Kronendal Music Academy, Amoyo Performing Arts Foundation, James House, Hout Bay CARES, Little Angels crèche in Hangberg, and any other deserving organisation, group or individual that finds themselves in need.

In 2019, Massimo’s donated over 4,000 slices (that’s almost 700 pizzas) to feed those in need.

Thank you to this wonderful person and to Massimo’s for its support to these communities in need.

If you want to contribute, head to Massimo’s for your next pizza feast (or get a takeaway!) and order a slice or two for charity.
