Chef Liam Tomlin announces launch of new culinary marvel in Cape Town

Renowned chef and restaurateur Liam Tomlin is adding to his list of extensive and much-loved restaurants with the launch of The Bailey, a three-storey culinary destination in the heart of Cape Town’s CBD.

Spurred on by the success of Chef’s Warehouse at Tintswalo Atlantic, Liam and his wife, Jan, partnered with the owners of Tintswalo Lodges, Lisa and Warwick Goosen and Gaye and Ernest Corbett, to launch The Bailey.

The new spot will be located at 91 Bree Street, in a historic building that is being restored to its former glory, and then some.

Liam hinted at the restoration on his Instagram but has not revealed much detail – until now.

Located directly opposite Heritage Square, where diners often frequent Liam’s popular spot Pinchos, The Bailey will be home to a multi-faceted foodie experience.

On the first level, patrons will find a “glamorous” bakery offering a range of pastry items including macaroons and delicious cakes. This level will also offer lunch and brunch menu options along with the addition of an “ultimate” high tea experience, which will reportedly be available later this year. Adding to its decadent offering, the first floor will also be home to a champagne bar.

In contrast, the second floor will have a European brasserie feel and approach in both design and food offering. According to an official press statement, the brasserie will have a theatre-like feel to it with a maître d’ “holding the floor”, contrasting with its contemporary dining experience.

The third and final floor will host a wine and whiskey bar with an open terrace where locals can unwind and kick back with a drink in hand.

The new spot aims to distinguish itself from the melting pot of restaurants in Cape Town by being a destination where food and wine lovers are able to connect and engage with one another.

The Bailey plans to open its doors to the public in April.
