Food

Nevermind is situated on the edge of the peninsula next to the iconic Seal Point Lighthouse in Cape St Francis. It offers a relaxing space to let go and free your mind – as the name invites, fitting for the setting when you consider the lighthouse is a symbol of refuge.

Nevermind the latest creation of Chef Wesley Randles, formerly of The Shortmarket Club (Cape Town). The menu celebrates fresh seasonal ingredients and open fire cooking.

The food is fusion tapas, bringing together a variety of techniques and flavours – and it’s simply sensational. With so many mouth-watering plates and the day’s specials on offer, you would be wise to follow the waiter’s recommendations. The braaied fish with Balinese cashew sambal matah is sweet and zesty and packed with flavour. Lemongrass prawn cakes with miso ginger butter are another must-try, as is the sumac roasted cauliflower loaded with whipped feta, lentils, mint and hazelnuts. The wood-fired potato bread is especially delicious when scooping up dollops of the best whipped tahini.

The food seems like fine dining until you find yourself eating the sweet and smoky harissa glazed lamb riblets with your fingers. That’s when you know you’ve embraced the ethos of this relaxed coastal eatery with food that’s meant to be shared and enjoyed. Except for the chocolate torte with cream – you couldn’t possibly share that.

Drinks

They have an extensive wine list including the likes of Newton Johnson, Miles Mossop and AA Badenhorst Family Wines, along with some more affordable options. You can bring your own wine (limited to one bottle between four people) at R80 corkage.

There is also a selection of classic cocktails, such as Bloody Mary or mimosa if you’re joining for breakfast, or a margarita, old-fashioned or Aperol Spritz might be more your taste.

There is also a good selection of beers and cider, including local St Francis craft beer on tap.

Service

Friendly service, excellent recommendations, with the food arriving quickly. If you’re ordering tapas, you may need to ask your waiter to introduce the different plates as it arrives all at once.

Ambience

The coastal-chic eatery design with high tables and barstools is intended to make you feel relaxed. It was surprisingly vibey for a Thursday night during the off-season in this seaside village, with both locals and out-of-towners enjoying the food, music, and laid-back atmosphere. You can sit outside and enjoy the sea air if the weather is good. On colder nights, it gets very cosy as they fire up  the indoor heaters
