While we love the delicious, memorable experiences you can enjoy at South Africa’s vast range of restaurants, sometimes we do need a change of scenery – as long as there’s good food involved, of course! And what could be better than dining at sea?

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) offers a diverse array of superb speciality restaurants, sustainably-focused cocktail and wine bars, and a trendy food hall on the new Prima Class vessels, Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva. The Norwegian Prima is the first ship in the new Prima Class that entered service in August 2022 with Norwegian Viva set to take to the Mediterranean waters later this year.

Incredible drinking and dining options on the Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva

Both ships include seven speciality restaurants that offer a multitude of global dining experiences, from a Mediterranean seafood restaurant and a sushi bar to an American-style steakhouse and a Japanese grill. Other must-experience options include Le Bistro, a chic French restaurant; Los Lobos, a modern Mexican restaurant; and Onda by Scarpetta, NCL’s signature Italian restaurant. The seventh restaurant, Food Republic, offers delicious global cuisine, including firecracker shrimp and pork belly bao.

If you’re looking for something more relaxed, in a first for NCL, Norwegian Prima’s Indulge Food Hall was inspired by the world’s great gourmet market halls. Enjoy al fresco dining with 11 trendy food trucks and casual food stations.

Of course, the best meals come with something equally delicious to drink in hand. Enter NCL’s first sustainably-focused bar: Metropolitan Bar. The bar forms part of NCL’s Sail and Sustain programme and offers a fully sustainable spirits menu and more than 20 biodynamic wines produced using organic farming methods. It also offers responsibly crafted zero-waste cocktails, such as their signature: the Primadonna. This play on an Old Fashioned is crafted using surplus banana peels with Flor De Cana rum that is produced with 100% renewable energy. Guests can also enjoy responsibly sourced botanical gins made specifically for NCL by Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana.

Norwegian Prima’s sister vessel, Norwegian Viva, is arriving later this year, bringing with her even more culinary and beverage firsts, so be sure to check www.flightcentre.co.za to learn more about NCL’s greatest offers or to book a cruise.
