Friday Takeout: The chicken wing edition

Forget about doing dishes over the weekend and order sticky, juicy chicken wings for dinner instead. Here are some of our favourite takeaway picks.

Butcher Block (Berea, Durban)

Their buffalo wings come with basted in either lemon-and-herb, peri-peri, sweet sticky BBQ or soya honey and chilli sauce. Choose between six, 12, 18 or 24 wings. And, while there’s nothing like indulging in sticky chicken wings, if you’re super hungry, they are also running a lockdown special of a full chicken and sweet potato chips for R99. Place your order via phone or WhatsApp for delivery or pickup, or order via Mr D, Uber Eats or Delivery Xtream.

The Great Eastern Food Bar (Illovo, Joburg)

Try something new with The Great Eastern Food Bar’s flavours from around Asia. The Tabasaki chicken comes with a miso-mayo dipping sauce, the Korean-fried chicken is described as “fiery and sweet” and the Bangkok-fried chicken is “sour, salty and sweet”. Delivery can be requested on Uber Eats or Mr D Food.

Hudson’s (Hazelwood, Pretoria)

In addition to smashing good burgers, Hudson’s also offers 300g and 600g chicken wings served with fries and ranch sauce. Choose between creamy peri-peri or smoky BBQ. Ask them to deliver to your door or do a curbside pickup. Branches also available in Green Point, Claremont, Stellenbosch, Gardens, Parkhurst and Bedfordview.

Sticky BBQ (Observatory, Cape Town)

Choose from four, six, 12 or 18 pieces with your choice of sauce. For those who prefer their chicken wings mild, go for classic BBQ. If you can handle a bit of heat, opt for spicy BBQ, sriracha or peri-peri. Bonus: Sticky BBQ has branches in Rondebosch, Long Street, Maitland and Cavendish (the latter two also being halaal) as well as in Sandton.
