The leafy suburb of Newlands will get a trendy new restaurant and takeaway spot next week. Taking over the old Wakaberry spot on Dean Street, Banks Burger is a fast-food concept serving old-school burgers made from scratch.

The family-run business aims to take the junk out of junk food and replace it with the basics: Burgers that are full of flavour and none of the nasties, like preservatives and additives. The hip orange-and-aqua-green shop will offer visitors quick-fix takeaway food that’s made with love.

The menu will be to the point, featuring burgers, fries and milkshakes. There will, however, be a vegan patty that’s free of gluten and soy. Everything will be made from scratch, including the brioche buns and pickles.

Customers can choose from three different burger sizes: Single, double, and triple for the extra-hungry. House-ground beef patties will be propped up on homemade buns with all the trimmings, including homemade ketchup and a Banks Burger secret sauce. Avoiding gluten? They’ll have you covered with a bunless option. There’ll be combos, classic fries and sweet potato chips, soft drinks and shakes, and a delivery system to make the fast food even quicker is on the cards.

Opening day is not yet set, but the Banks Burger team has hinted that it might be within the next week. Keep your eyes on their Instagram and Facebook pages for opening announcements.
