One last party before Jozi institution The Doll House is demolished

The Doll House, an iconic roadhouse in Orange Grove, famous for its milkshakes, burgers and party scene, is set to be demolished at the end of August after 80 years of trade. The Gauteng Provincial Heritage Resource Authority has sent out a notice announcing plans to tear down the building.

The impending closure has engendered plenty of nostalgia on Instagram and Twitter, and an appreciation group on Facebook has over 4000 members, who have shared some lively memories.

But before the roadhouse closes its doors for the last time, one last party is planned. An outdoor photographic exhibition will celebrate the hangout ahead of its demolition. Roadhouse – a Gauteng-based photography initiative which brings art to public spaces – will host an outdoor photographic exhibition on 26 August from 6pm until late. The Doll House will be serving food and drinks, and there will also be a small market and music from local DJs.

Several well-known local and international photographers including Roger Ballen, Billy Monk, Jodi Bieber, Paul Shiakallis and Jurgen Schadenberg will exhibit works as part of the exhibition entitled ‘Night’. Visit roadhouse.ink for more info.
