Following the online success of the biltongboard.com monthly delivery scheme, entrepreneurs Sarel Van der Walt and Maxime Eon have decided to extend the venture to open a stand-alone biltong eatery and bar in Cape Town’s City Bowl this September. A modern sidewalk bar, the Biltong Board bar will showcase South African biltong paired with local wines and craft beers, with the aim of pleasing tourists as well as locals.

The bar’s menu will feature a range of biltong that will be available to purchase or enjoy as a sit-down delicacy. Options will include beef, kudu, gemsbok and eland biltong with gourmet options like Wagyu and prime beef fillet. On the more substantial side of things, the kitchen will offer French-style sandwiches served in footlong baguettes filled with ethically and locally sourced ingredients. These will include the likes of prosciutto and mozzarella; salami and provolone; Greek bacon biltong and brie; and pepperoni with coppa and mortadella.

On the drinks side of things, the Biltong Board bar will offer local wines and craft beers to pair with the meaty snacks.

While the opening date of September is the goal, the Biltong Board team is also looking to raise extra funds and spread the word prior to the launch with a crowdfunding campaign.

Look out for the store on the corner of Bloem and Loop Street in Cape Town next month.
