Cheers to South African sauvignon blanc, especially those of the 2020 vintage! Sauvignon Blanc South Africa has announced the winners of the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc SA Top 10 competition – and no less than seven of the champion wines are from the 2020 vintage, which turned out to be an excellent vintage for sauvignon blanc.

These exciting results of South Africa’s only competition dedicated to sauvignon blanc were announced today during an awards ceremony hosted with the support of FNB and EVER Solutions at five different restaurants in the Western Cape and Gauteng.

A panel of leading wine experts judged the top 10 this year, with Cape Wine Master Dr Winifred Bowman as convener, as well as Charles Hopkins, cellar master of De Grendel, wine judge and author Fiona McDonald, Rüdger van Wyk, winemaker of Stark-Condé Wines, Johann Fourie, chief winemaker of Benguela Cove, as well as two Cape Winemakers Guild Protégés, Kelsey Shungking of Mullineux and Leeu and Victoria Davis of Boekenhoutskloof.

RJ Botha, Chairman of Sauvignon Blanc SA, says now is the time to support each other in the industry. “It is a privilege to be able to give back to the larger hospitality industry through #SaveSARestaurants. Our thanks go to Reuben’s in Franschhoek, Decameron in Stellenbosch, PLTFRM in Pretoria, Magica Roma in Pinelands and De Malle Meul in Philadelphia who received us with open arms. Many thanks also to our platinum partners FNB and EVER Solutions for their understanding of our industry and their contribution to our success.”
