Food
The akuri curried eggs – fried onions and peppers with home-made curry sauce scrambled into free-range eggs, served with toast – may be the best hangover cure ever.

The lunch menu includes a duck breast salad, fishcakes or roast chicken soup for starters, while mains include moules-frites, venison stroganoff or an incredibly delicious chicken-and-mushroom pie with salad and gravy.

For dessert, many wonderful baked items will tempt you to throw caution to the wind.

Drinks
The wine list is well compiled, with interesting inclusions.

Service
A regiment of smartly turned out waiters deal with any request. Look longingly enough at the sausages in the meat counters and you may be treated to a tour of the butchery.

Ambience
The stoep out front is perfect for long hours over great food and drinks, though surrounded by a busy buzz.

Best for…
Work lunches, with an extensive deli and kitchen shop to tempt any home cook.
