Hi Guys, Yes it sounds silly..It was my first time at bootlegger, although now looking at their branches, I pass them all the time. Well I was impressed with breakfast, after doing a trail walk with my cuz and scout (poodle) we were hungry but didn't want to over do it. We chose the Omega Smash, and it hit the spot, not being too heavy but filling at the same time, we were very pleased that the menu catered for our wants, none of the breakfast selections were greasy, none of it made you feel guilty and the euphoria of being able to relax whilst having breakfast with your pooch is a major bonus. We also shared a slice of heavenly carrot cake, seeing as we just did a work out and didn't want it to be in vain..but in my opinion - the best part of the experience was the coffee! I am a sweet tooth and take 3 sugars in my cup, but forgetting to add sugar, I sipped on my coffee and immediately realized how smooth and creamy it was, that in fact I did not even need sugar! now there is a reason to celebrate. Not only was great care taken when putting together the menu, as well as the healthier needs of today, but to be able to take your WHOLE family with you to lunch..five stars all the way. Thank you guys, you really did a pristine job in creating bootlegger. Well done. p.s and Scout gives 5 stars too!
A great addition to the area. Tables on the road have a pleasant buzz about them, and it's lovely in the late afternoon with the sun setting over the mountain. Can't really comment on the food, as we just popped in for some draughts and a few coffees. (Top marks for the coffee milkshake, though!)
Great place, a bit short on staff but food is excellent and vibe is top class. These other reviews seem a bit unfair to be honest. Try it out, great little shop over the road as well when you're done. Buttermilk pancakes with bacon is an absolute winner.
Been here at the Kenilworth branch 3 times , first two times got served breakfast on cold plates naturally getting cold food both times with my eggs being over easy and my bacon dripping with oil , the 3rd time sitting outside for 15min without being served or noticed while staff hang to the rear of the shop , eventually 25 min later I get coffee served with a quarter of the cup in the saucer and it being wiped out at the table, lovely shop , could work on service from kitchen and foh , come on peeps can get better
The Klutz in the Kitchen's Straight Talkin' No Punches Pulled Restaurant, Bisto, Cafe, Pub, Food Truck, Street Food & Take Away Grub n' Cooking Maguffta Reviews ======+++++====== There I was, hanging around at the computer checking things out on Facebook, Twitter and the ‘net seeing all sorts of interesting things I decided to follow up on a couple. So a few weeks ago I went out to try out a new coffee shop in Kenilworth called The Bootlegger, now after seeing their Facebook page with a picture of one of their burgers which was on special offer celebrating their new liquor license, now as one knows The Klutz in the Kitchen is a real sucker for a really good burger and beer at anytime of the day. I arrived around 11:17 on Saturday morning, looked for a table in the nearly full shop, found one, sat down, casting my eyes around he buzzing, vibrant shop, and soon after was presented with the breakfast menu by an attending waitress which I was not there for, I was there for that beautiful looking burger on FB. I asked if they had another menu and was told yes and given 3 other menus. Two of which stated they were only in operation at certain times of the day but was pleased to see the burger menu had no such restrictions. Whilst perusing their menus I ordered a cup of their coffee, shock and horror a mini cup was served, no not an espresso cup nor a regular coffee cup but something in between, the young waitress, hate the word waitron, noticed my look of consternation and disappointment, I said, “don’t like the small cup, sir?” “er, what do you think young lady” I said. I won't say what she said because I fear her bosses may victimize her, the offending cup was 175ml cup as opposed to a regular cup, at 20 bucks it was a serious rip off to my way of thinking. The coffee itself was horrible, bitter with scum on top. They claim huge pride in their coffee, but don’t know how they could because it was like dishwater, ugh! It makes me think of something I’d not drunk since a child, that brand of cheap chicory based instant “coffee” which actually tastes good by comparison. I was now ready to order and the manager over to take my order. I told her I wanted the Burger Special as advertised on Facebook. I was told no that the kitchen for that side was not open nor were the burgers ready, huh! I was told that the burgers are made fresh and weren’t ready another huh! This was now around 11:45. I was further informed that the equipment for making and cooking the burgers was not ready, again huh! Having been in and run professional kitchens and owned restaurants I knew there was a problem and that the manageress was totally out of her depth forgetting about customer service and that the customer is king. She single handedly destroyed The Klutzes faith in the Bootlegger Coffee Company, I do however lay blame at her bosses for a complete lack of customer service training. I won’t be back at the Bootlegger in Kenilworth in a hurry nor do I recommend them highly at all. I left hungry, disappointed and ripped off, the shame is that I’d hoped to find a local coffee shop to arrange meetings at on a regular basis, sad it’s not to be at this stage, depends on a second visit sometime in the future. The search continues. The Bootlegger is lucky to get ★★ = Better than bad, still not good enough waste of time and money. Visit at ones own peril. The Klutz in the Kitchen will be visiting one of the other branches in the near future to see if the experience is repeated.
