    We visited Bruno's last night. Given the write-ups on this, I expected much more than we got. The service was good at first, but towards the end our waiter just disappeared. I had to go to the desk to get the bill. Food-wise, my wife had one of their specials - kingklip wrapped in salmon, which arrived rather dry and without the dill-flavoured creme fraiche mentioned on the board. The lamb shank was supposed to come with parsnip puree, but quite frankly, the parsnip puree turned out to be mashed potatoes. The fillet was good, as was the pepper sauce. The creme brulee was cold, runny and with a crust thick enough to hold an elephant. Would I go back? No.

    Very disappointing. We decided to visit this restaurant because of a review that described Bruno’s as a ‘food theatre’ and ‘culinary experience’… The review couldn’t have been more misguided (we later realised it was quite old). Our waiter was very kind and willing, but clearly lacked basic training (we had to ask for menus after quite some time). Not only did he not know or understand the menu, but got our orders (of which there were only 4) wrong even after writing them down. He also neglected to ask which sides we would like or how the steak should be prepared. The first dish arrived solo at the table… we then waited 10 minutes for the next… and 10 minutes for the next… and 10 minutes for the next. Needless to say, we couldn’t enjoy the meals together for the sake of not eating ice cold food! Not only was the food average (and quite pricey), some of the dishes were served with different accompaniments as to what was described on the menu. The manager was made aware of our dissatisfaction and (to his credit) offered free dessert as compensation. These too were average. It is very unfortunate as this restaurant has a good location and willing staff, but until a connection between manager, waiters, chef and menu is made, they will not see us again.
