Owner's description

Step onto the deep green Udaipur marble floors of any Bukhara restaurant around South Africa and feel the opulence of a classical India far removed from the glitz and glamour of Bollywood.

We were regulars at Bukhara since 2009 or so. The quality of the food and service has steadily declined but their prices have increased substantially. It's definitely not worth the price you pay any longer. Very disappointing for a restaurant that started of with great service and amazing food.
What a horrifying and expensive experience! Shortly after ordering a bottle of wine the waiter asked if we wanted to order and we said we needed more time. Then came the manager ten minutes later to ask if we are ready to order...that is what he does firstly and is not concerned about anything else so obviously doesn't bother to ask if the wine and service is up to scratch. We then proceed to order and nobody bothers to find out if we have a preference for medium, mild or hot. Then comes the food. I ordered a dish that I am extremely familiar with but was unable to eat more than a mouthful of the food because it tasted horrible! At this stage the food is standing on the table and cooling down but neither the waiter or manager is at this point interested in finding out if everything is okay. The restaurant wasn't busy - which should have been a clear indication of what to expect. The waitress proceeded to snap the plates off the table without asking if she could clear them and the manager at this stage was nowhere to be found. Bukhara just presented us with a disgusting experience and I would never recommend it to anybody. Horrible food, terrible service. Is this really the kind of service we are willing to tolerate in South Africa????
This restaurant was an exellent five star restaurant in the past but has fallen into neglect with the opening of many new branches. The standards have fallen to that of dogfood and would be best avoided by someone seeking arguably the finest Indian cuisine on planet earth.
Yesterday was my birthday and thought of celebrating it with my family with a dine out @ Bhukhara, Sandton. We are 2 Adults + 2 kids(6, 3 yrs). We have ordered for 2 starters, 1 veg curry, 5 bread. The waitress was ok and after 2 min's to my shock, she comes back and tells us that the rule is to order 2 curries if you are 2 persons. Curry can't be shared. This was the first time in my whole life I heard that eh curry can't be shared. I have asked whether it is mentioned in the menu then a manager comes and tells me that its new rule and it yet to print in the menu.

This incidence spoiled my entire birthday mood and we left there empty stomach.

In Indian culture, we say ATHIDHI DEVO BHAVA(means Guest is god), here this incidence shows how commercialize these people are. They are there to make money but not at all to serve customers.

I recommend people not to plan your important days a Bhukhara at least.

The place is a production line. If they were serving fast food the quality and service would have been just about acceptable.
