Best steaks on the planet! The Chateaubriand is my favourite!! I get it every single time :)
Our steaks were prepared perfectly and we received great service from our waitron Lisa.
On the 24 January 2016, my partner and I went to cattle Barron for my birthday dinner. Drinks: pina colada, well i should rather say "slush-puppy with a tot of vodka" Starters: blue cheese snails- absolutely terrible would not advice anyone to have it. peri peri chicken livers- there was no Peri peri, it did not have even the slightest burn or taste to it. Main: rump steak special medium done- well let just put it that way my dog was chewing on the steak for 3 hours. Other than that the staff was excellent the manager was great and replaced out drinks with strawberry milkshakes, could not bare the disappointment with another cocktail. P.S after she offered to add cream to the slush-puppy.
My Fiancee and I are firm regulars by now. We have eaten at several Cattle Baron's in Cape Town over the years and have always found that this one is by far the best! They have specials that are simply put, cheaper than eating at home, on a Monday and Tuesday night. Their Ribs are absolutely out of this world and their steaks are superb quality. The most recent surprise to ourselves though have been their Chicken Schnitzels. The best schnitzels in Cape Town. Proper Chicken cooked to perfection. Soft, juicy and just perfectly cooked each time we have had them. They have a lunch buffet on sundays which has a marvellous spread and again, the surprise of the day is that their calamari and fish is also fantastic. Not bad for a Steak House. The service has always been generally good for us though we have had some days with poor service but that can be attributed most times to the fact that the restaurant is always packed so the waiters might spin a bit. All in all, this is our favourite restaurant.
Cattle Baron was 1/3 full on one of the busiest nights of the year, however we had a 15 minute wait for 2 drinks because of a "problem at the bar". We ordered 2 sirloin steaks with sauces on the side. The first steak arrived with slightly moldy-tasting pepper sauce, but we left that aside and the steak itself was very good. The second steak arrived with Mexican instead of Rosini sauce. 10 minutes waiting later we sent the steak back to be kept warm.Eventually it arrived smothered in Rosini sauce, so we sent it back again and told them to cancel the order, since one of us had by now nearly finished the meal. At this stage Management usually intervenes to resolve the issue amicably, but she seemed oblivious of anything going on in the restaurant. We inquired about the mix-up with cold steaks , incorrect sauces and missing complimentary bread ("well, did you ask for it!?"). She rolled her eyes at a nearby waiter, told us to "stop causing a scene", and ordered us to pay the bill and leave. By far the most unprofessional and haughty restaurant manager I've ever come across and no doubt a reason for the sharp decline in what was once a great steak restaurant. After 16 years of living in the area and frequenting Cattle Baron we will be taking our business elsewhere
