Embracing Joburg’s energy, Flames has an urban-casual menu featuring a smattering of reinterpreted South African classics, prepared in the outdoor braai kitchen. Open all day, this relaxed spot is perfect for leisurely sunset drinks and small bites on the expansive hillside terrace overlooking the city’s treetops while occasionally a DJ spins some tracks.
This is always our guests’ first late afternoon event and brag for us about the astonishingly treed park that is Joburg, when they’ve come to stay. Nowhere does one appreciate this better than from here. Although the sun goes down behind the hotel, the view is stunning at any time of the day. The food prices range from a soup at R50 to a Wagyu Sirloin at R680. Flames restaurant is all about food cooked with fire, so visitors often don’t get much of that till they come to us here. At present, for the hols, there’s a champagne and oyster after-four offering and elegantly-South-African tapas.
