Owner's description

Idiom Wines is based in the heart of the Helderberg range. This southernmost part of the Stellenbosch wine region provides the backdrop and the perfect climatic conditions for the incredible range of wines. A celebration of terroir, unusual varietals and masterful blends, Idiom is so-called because it is home to the Cape expression of so many European classics. The Idiom Restaurant and Tasting Centre opened in June 2016, and the venue offers ‘contemporary dining ‘ in the restaurant and a wine tasting centre that showcases Idiom’s flagship blends, signature Italian varietal wines and rare limited-release 900 Series wines. Explore the ‘Cape Idiom’ of the great wine regions of the world, while taking in architecture, views, and Italian-South African wines.

We celebrated my birthday at the restaurant and they were so accommodating and friendly. The Chef prepared a birthday cake selection for me as a gift, it was a memorable experience
What a beautiful setting! I just cant believe more people dont know about this gem. Its probably because its quite a drive to get here. You get the feeling that the owners might be Italian because its shown in the names of the wine blends and the food on the menu. We decided to try everything and I promise they have some of the best pizzas in the Western Cape. The woodfired pizza with sourdough base and interesting toppings is really what this restaurant is about. I loved the combinations of starters and mains as they are written on the menu - definitely fine dining style fo whats currently on trend being eastern asian flavours like miso and yuzu- but starters are a let down so rather skip them and opt for mains which were far more satisfying.
Another top-class restaurant overlooking Gordon's Bay in the distance, situated high up on the Hottentot Hollands mountain range. This is not only a fine-dining restaurant, but also a bistro/pizzeria fulfilling the needs of those with a limited food budget. Following a superb wine tasting we ordered pizzas that could not be faulted. Thin baked crusts and a wide choice of toppings. We were able to order a pizza without cheese for one of our party who is allergic to cheese. The full menu has a pricing structure and food options at every level, including a children's menu. There is a 2 or 3 course wine pairing menu which we will partake and review later, but from what we heard from other diners, we don't expect to be disappointed. Its Italian ownership and overall influence is reflected in both its food as well as its wines. The setting is superb and the magnificent new building, architecturally superb, housing the restaurant and wine tasting facility further enhances the continental feeling. An exciting addition to the dining out options of the Helderberg Region.
