Multi-level restaurant, with dishes from around Africa and African-inspired decor, plus live bands.
My family and I went to celebrate at the restaurant. The service was the worst. Very slow inattentive waiter's. When the food came it was quiet overpriced for the portion sizes. Something that supposedly could be shared by 4 was only big enough for 2. Service after the food arrived got worst waited for a long time for table to be cleared. We ordered dessert and then had to call someone as our waiter was no where yo be found to come clear out our main course dishes. The kids were excited about getting their faces painted in the traditional Moyo paint, we had asked for this as soon as we arrived. But to our dismay this was only arranged after asking several times after we had paid the bill. We were very disappointed in the service and food portions especially the items that are meant for sharing we ordered the seafood R789 not worth the price. Also the dessert was the worst thing ever the chocolate brownie was a small block 2.5cm and ice cream was so little for R69 it was a RIP off. Then we got the bill and did not tip the 10% as we usually would due to the terrible service, and the waiter had the nerve to ask for the tip to be made to 10%. When we refused he got angry and started swearing at us in his language. When we were about to leave we asked for him to call the manger during to the terrible service and he disappeared. We never got to see the manger we left very dissatisfied and disappointed. My kids said afterwards that we will never go back there.

When reviewing a restaurant the food is reviewed based on quality, taste and cost. The venue can be evaluated based on decor, layout and service.
Looking at Moyo's food it failed completely with mediocre tasting food that might not agree with everyone's pallet (or stomach) when compared to above average cost. The accompanying starch is dry and not enough gravy is provided to allow you to enjoy the African meal without choking.
The decor of the restaurant is run down with regards to the two rooms available to general public and they were shabby and not up to the standard of the area. The chairs were so uncomfortable it might have been better to sit on wooden stumps.
The service would have been acceptable for a busy evening though not for a quiet winter time were it had been sporadic with us mostly waiting to get their attention. Layout is also unconventional placing some tables in front the firefighting equipment which not only is unattractive but unsafe. The layout of the Kitchen area means you sit under the mezzanine area which results in many loud bangs as people move chairs about or drop things, making the whole experience devoid of any enjoyment.
Took seven international guests who were all disappointed. Ordered the large kraal grill which advertised meat for 4to 6 people with two side choices. When the food arrived the side choice was only for one person. I called the waiter who referred me to the floor manager who then called the general manager who informed me that serving a side choice was only for one person and not for 4 to 6. This was company policy and could not be changed. He grudgingly brought a serving for another person. We left after mains and with faces painted proudly went to another restaurant for dessert and coffee. The starters average R65 and mains R 150. Bring a scale if you order meat the weights bear little relation to what you see on your plate.
i took foreign guests there last Saturday.
1. Starters were oily and tasteless
2. Main course was warm not hot.
3. lights and heaters kept tripping.
4. a party was going on behind you, couldn't hear yourself speak.
5 you have not Paraplegic bathroom.
6. Card machine failed on 2 cards.
How to screw up a great product..
moyo Melrose Arch is my favourite one - go there quite often and ALWAYS take my tourist guests there for the authentic African experience. the food is really excellent as is the service. Staff are always friendly and helpful and the manager is always around. Highly recommend the fillet and the flatbread and the pumpkin mash and the cocktails and ... I could go on.
