What a disappointment. We were rushed from the moment we arrived. The bread was brought to the table before we had even ordered drinks. We arrived at 19H00 and by 20H15 we were told the kitchen was closing and we needed to order our dessert if we wanted dessert. The kingklip was totally over cooked as was the lamb shank. The service was appauling and the waiter was clearly untrained. Definately a total disappointment and won't be recommending this restruarant to Paternoster visitors. Astonomical prices for sub standard food.
Reubens prices, below average food and service, the fish and chips take away at the paternoster hotel is better quality. Very dissapointing. Reubens will not see me again.
I was very sceptical about this Reuben's after reading the negative review below, but booked a table for Sunday lunch since the other great Paternoster restaurants (Gaaitjie and Noisy Oyster) are all closed for winter. I didn't have high expectations but was pleasantly surprised. Our service was impeccable, with our waiter, Paddington, being highly attentive and helpful. The food wasn't groundbreaking in terms of innovation, and a bit overpriced, but very enjoyable, especially the classics like the pork belly and salt and pepper squid. Had the mussels for main, which was great, except that it was not served with any sides. The dessert menu didn't look very interesting, but there was a large selection of off-menu specials available for mains.
I have always been a Reuben Riffel fan but taking my loyalties elsewhere after dining here during December 2014. Great venue, okay service, mediocre overpriced food.
Save yr money and go somewhere else. Not to recommend. Poor service and below average food :-( It could be a great spot, but nobody cares ...
