I was lucky enough to be taken to the Robertson Small Hotel for a surprise anniversary getaway. Loved that Reuben's was the in-house restaurant, so we didn't have far to go to fall into bed afterwards. After a very tasty amuse-bouche of mushroom soup with freshly baked rolls, I started with probably the best calamari I have ever had - crisp, yet perfectly tender, accompanied by a light salad, and a lightly spiced sweet chili sauce. My husband's poor cauliflower soup, while delicious, did pale a bit in comparison to the calamari. My main course of pork belly with pommes puree and a sweet slick of apple sauce, topped with crackling curls, was outstanding - melting under pressure of my fork with all the fat beautifully rendered. My husband chose the sirloin special, which was well-cooked, but not as tasty as we expected and the chips were slightly on the limp side. Happily for him, the pork belly was enough for two, so he got the rest of my plate. (Portions are extremely generous!). We ended with a shared creme brûlée with peanut ice-cream - heaven! The only negative thing I would say was that the service was maybe a bit too swift - it would have been good to have had a bit more of a breather between starter and main course. Dinner for the two of us with a bottle of wine (before gratuity) was R950.

What a lovely surprise! We did a little road trip, and landed up in Robertson, not expecting to find this elegant establishment! Beautiful setting, relaxed ambience, attention to detail. The menu is interesting, and the food is divine - we had tempura prawns and ostrich fritters for starters, and potato gnocchi for mains. Desserts were delectable. Take the drive, make the trip - it's worth it.

Had lunch at this restaurant on 3 December 2011 and ordered the Nicoise salad. Very disappointed to find out that the tuna on the dish was from a tin and the amount of tuna served was equal to a teaspoon full. I wouldn't have associated Reuben's with tinned tuna, which you can buy at your local superette. I also then found something in my salad resembling a nail? But according to the chef it wasn't. Who knows? I used to think "Reuben's" stood for quality and high standards in food - but it seems I was mistaken. What a pity.

We visited Reubens in Robertson for a late lunch on Family Day, and were warmly welcomed, even with small child and baby, and no reservation! Food and service excellent in a quaint setting within a very cool hotel! Highly recommended!
DELICIOUS! Enjoyed a fantastic dinner here on Saturday night as part of our weekend at the hotel. Enjoyed a mammoth portion of tempura prawns for starters (how refreshing to eat at a restaurant where they dont try to skimp on the ingredients!) followed by a rich and tender pork belly. Service was slick and confident, and the ambience buzzy. The only disappointment was that I couldnt squeeze in dessert! And what excellent value - dinner for two plus a bottle of champagne cost the same as a few plates from the sushi bar at CTFM the night before. Outstanding!
