The Garden restaurant is set in charming gardens, over 1000 rosebushes, ponds, water features, herb gardens, over 200 old milk cans spread within the garden setting and delightful quotes of the day.
The Children's Play area is well situated within the Garden Restaurant. It is so designed that you can enjoy your meal in peace while happily watching your children thrive on all the Stonehaven kiddies activities, like the Large Gladiator jumping castle, trampoline, the Big Water Slip Slide, swimming pool, tree house, jungle gym and sand pit. There's also a Kiddies' Animal Farm. There's a Kiddies a la carte meal Mondays to Saturdays, and on Sundays there is a specially designed Children's Buffet.
A fabulous setting but unfortunately that is all. We arrived only to be told that there was no bread for the table and no starters or desserts on the menu as the kitchen would not cope! Work this one out for yourself. We all proceeded to order our meals. I ordered as per the menu "crispy eisbein served with sauerkraut and mashed potato". Well 1.5 hours later we were served our lunch. My soggy eisbein with smash was placed in front of me and needless to say the sauerkraut was forgotten. The food all round was cold. No German mustard to accompany the eisbein. We ate what we could as quickly as possible so as to make in time for the cruise that the owners offer, which leaves at 15,30. We requested the bill from the very pleasant waiter when the most unpleasant incident happened. One of the benches from outside was being carried into the restaurant as we were finishing our meal, carrying an over sized waitress on it... lying down! They all started singing and counting their tips that they had made for the day. As we had purchased the ticket before lunch for the cruise, we rushed down to the jetty only to find that they had changed the boat to another boat and had left 5 minutes earlier than the scheduled departure time! Apologies all round but too late. If you have money to waste on a Sunday lunch and day out on the Vaal, good luck!
