Owner's description

The Larder is a small neighbourhood hidden gem, pouring espresso shots in the legendary Marigold's site on the corner of Grove Avenue and Pearce Rd. Enjoy the fresh air on our sunny stoep, out of the mall. It offers amazing coffee & honest food. Simplicity is important. Everything is homemade from scratch, even the jam. Eggs are ALWAYS free-range, meats are pasture reared, coffee fair trade & packaging compostable & biodegradable. We choose not to use straws, sorry. The café uses eco friendly fridges, LED lighting too so we can reduce our impact on the environment. The Larder is café’s with soul, quirky décor & warm ambience, a home away from home. Come and be welcomed into the family.

We work with nature, seasonally as best we can, fresh and free range, from as close as possible. We avoid food, coffee & drinks with miles. Our meats are free range, chicken from Elgin & bacon from Ryan Boon’s and charcuterie from Richard Bosman. Our coffee is ethically sourced in Africa from Bean There who support and uplift communities directly.

We tinker with cakes, vegan food and offer plenty of gluten & sugar free options.

We cook from scratch on site, our mayo’s our pesto’s are all homemade. Our eggs are not pre-cooked. Our team is small, this mean we get to know you all better. A bit like Cheers, where everyone knows your name...

Always a great place to visit, Cape Town's version of "Cheers" where everybody knows your name! Excellent food, always welcoming and always on point in terms of service. The best option on the menu has to be the Johnny Depp, trust me you want to order this!
This place is a hidden gem. Opens early (7am) so great to pop into to get away from the hustle and bustle outside. You can sit down in their funky designed space (inside or outside on their terrace), or grab something quick to take out with you. Their food and drinks cater to all tastes including vegan and vegetarian. Ethically sourced African coffee satisfies those with a need for caffeine. Those not on the coffee, can select from a great selection of caffeine free options (think vegan hot chocolate, golden tumeric latte), more than 10 types of tea & raw pressed juices. Wine and craft beer is available from 11am if you need to celebrate! Food is delicious and restorative, you can feel the love put into it. My personal favourites are the mushroom ragu on sourdough breakfast, take away frittatas, Bahn Mi asian wrap and the Millionaires Shortbread. They have great values: produce is sourced locally from small farmers, whose animals are free range and antibiotic free. Everything is cooked from scratch, so you know exactly what's in it. They also support the no plastic movement, with no plastic straws and packaging is biodegradable. They produce their own condiments for you to buy and take home and support other local companies selling their food related products too. If you want to get the larder experience for your own party they also do catering! What's not to love?
