Having pre-booked and ordered a peking duck, we went with high expectations. Maybe because the more fluent students weren't there, we were totally shocked at the service and attitude. Firstly, we had to phone from outside to be let in - after ten minutes we were admitted. From there, it deteriorated: the woman serving us insisted that we HAD to eat the peking duck as starter (my husband wanted it as mains); the R288 dish was not even half of what we are used to getting for a whole duck (just the skins were served - who knows what happened to the rest of the meat); we were told that the chef had to prepare the sushi rice before we could eat; the server insisted that we were ordering too much (!!) and proceeded to lecture us on how we should follow Chinese culture and share all the dishes. For the five guests, it was a comedy of errors trying to communicate that we wanted the sushi as starters and the other dishes should come together as mains - we were simply ignored and she brought dishes willy-nilly. A screaming match ensued when one of the (very nervous) waitresses dropped a glass container and she was sent packing to the kitchen by the same woman who had been lecturing us. We will NEVER go back there as at no time did we feel welcome nor were our wishes - as paying patrons - respected. We also feel the prices were not competitive such as the case of the chicken sweet corn soup that was quoted in a newspaper article (dated 2015) at R 15, the item on the menu was R 22.

As a visitor in Pretoria, I caught a nasty cold. This prompted me to seek a Chinese restaurant that could serve me some simple home cooking. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised when we met the proprietress, Mrs. Law. She suggeted some rice noodles in soup with bitter melon, salted eggs and some pork slices -- exactly what we needed and the dish was very authentic. She didn't know that I'm a Chinese cookbook author and restaurant critic. When we returned the next day, I could order dishes not on the menu. I plan to return to this restaurant again and again for it is like having my own chef cook what I like. I highly recommend it.

Very good chinese food. Recommended dishes are the peking duck which should be ordered in advance since it appears that it is a "on request item". But it is definitely worth it. The singapore fried rice noodles is also a delicious choice for some who might like something a bit more spicy. They also offer sushi which is value for money and very fresh. The decor in the restaurant is a bit dated but this is not of much significance.

Best Chinese food in Pretoria. The decor is like any other Chinese restaurant, not good. This is not their focus, the food is. The food was fresh and very tasty. We had the beef and ginger, lemon chicken and Chinese vegetables.

We went there last night after some searching on the web for alternative Chinese restaurants. We were met with a very eccentric lady at the front counter who turned out to be the owner. We proceeded to ask what she could recommend we try of the menu. She then went into a stutter and said we must "just try", meaning choose anything. The chef, a lady, then came out and helped us with some of the ingredients that were in their dishes.

We ordered the Honey Pork and Beef Chow Mein.
At this point a cockroach ran across the counter and she smashed it with her hand and laughed.

We walked outside and started questioning the quality and freshness of the food, seeing that the restaurant on the inside was dead empty.

We received our order rather fast and off we went.

The honey pork, much to my disappointment, turned out to be a couple of slices of cold meat that was heated up and dipped in honey and drenched in onions, broccoli and cauliflower. For R60 I expected some succulent nuggets of pork.

The Beef Chow Mein seemed to be the clear winner, but also tasted like they used old noodles and old cooking oil.

Honestly, compared to Kung Fu Kitchen, this place is not bad but Kung Fu is better when it comes to their food and quality.

I am sure that Wing Hin rock the charts when they are really busy, but for a weeknight takeout I would rather go elsewhere. Thank the pope we did not take any seafood.
