Outlandish Kitchen to host dinners on Cape farms

Farm to fork is one of the hottest trends in dining out at the moment, but the folk at Outlandish Kitchen are taking the supplier focus one step further, bringing the fork to the farm by hosting dinners on farms around the Cape in the coming months.

Food stylist Jules Mercer – who has worked with the likes of Nigella Lawson – is behind the initiative. “I thought it would be a great way to celebrate local farmers and food artisans,” explains Jules. Each supper will be quite unique – in menu, setting and atmosphere – and each supper will focus on what the farmer in question produces. “So if his beef is incredible, we'll focus on that for the evening,” says Jules.

The first Outlandish Kitchen event, ‘The Meaty One’, will take place at Klein Welmoed farm, the home of Usana products, on Saturday 12 May 2012. While the exact details of the four course menu are a secret, Jules reveals that farmers Pierre Winshaw and Danie Carinus will be showing off their fabulous beef, lamb and free-range eggs. The evening will include a four-course meal, outlandish entertainment, beers and wines. Tickets cost R575.

Vegetarian? Fear not, according to Jules, a couple of organic, leafy feasts are on the cards in future months.
