Food:

Expect all the usual suspects, like quesadillas, tacos, fajitas, a good old chilli con carne – mild or hot – and sincronizada, a wheat tortilla with cheese, chicken, bacon, ham, tomatoes and onions, served with guacamole and sour cream. The prawn ceviche comes with tortilla chips, a tray of Bandito’s sauces and Chapala, a great picante sauce. End the meal with buñuelos with cinnamon, sugar and ice cream.

Wine:

Tequila is the drink du jour and they have a daunting collection. The waitress may even suggest a tequila coffee instead of the usual.

Service:

Waiters are warm and charming; there is a good interaction between them and their patrons. Old-fashioned Chappies in place of the ubiquitous Endearmints with the bill is a nice touch.

Ambience:

A colourful, fun mix. A larger-than-life painting of Frida Kahlo vies for attention with the vintage movie posters adorning the walls and the beaded chilli light fittings.

And...:

This is definitely the place to hang out in summer. The open saloon design might make it a bit chilly in winter, but wall-mounted gas heaters try valiantly to keep everyone comfy. If that fails, have another tequila! (HF, October 2011)
