Owner's description

The Bombay Bicycle Club is a representation of Madame Zingara’s colourful history and an expression of their eclectic past in Loop street; a wacky bohemian venue where guests are encouraged to let their hair down – and expected to stay up way past bed time. Especially loved by those who revel in a dining experience as opposed to simply a meal out, The Bombay is also ideally suited for celebrations of all kinds. The warm, festive ambience is impossible to resist and the wonderfully friendly staff are known for their vibrant service.

I hadn't been to Bombay Bicycle Club since before lockdown (when I'd had a very enjoyable time) so two friends and I tried out the revamped BBC this week and unfortunately the experience, and food, didn't live up to my previous one. Two of us ordered the seafood pasta (R240) and were both unimpressed at the amount of seafood in it, and the portion size was small. I pointed out to the waitress that the portion was a bit small for a pasta main and asked if there was some bread to mop up the sauce at the end and she said that they "don't do bread anymore but I could order a roti for R15". When a meal costs R240 you expect to be satisfied after it so I passed on paying more money for a roti to try and complete the meal. The other friend ordered the chilli chocolate steak and although he said the steak was cooked well, the sauce was nothing special and the side fries were average. The service wasn't amazing and we all left feeling quite disappointed and wont be going back.
Such a great all round experience at Bombay Bicycle Club! The food was delicious, the cocktails were perfect and the atmosphere is so vibey! Will definitely be going back soon1
Indeed a circus It's amazing how much can change in a year. This used to be one of my favourite places. It made for a great option to entertain the out-of-towners with all its mystery and craziness but my recent visit was disappointing to say the least. The service has gone from entertaining to poor, first round drinks arrived halfway through mains and the waiter did not even offer dessert. The omission of anchovies in the pork belly dish on the menu almost sent me to the emergency room. Restaurant 101: Food allergies! Time for the circus to perhaps leave town or change their act!
You just know you are in for a rather extraordinary evening when entering Madame Zingara's Bombay Bicycle Club nestled nicely on Kloof Street in the heart of Gardens, Cape Town. Quaint and cosy, bohemian style venue with larger than life soul embodied in each and every employee - just as one would expect being a Madame Zingara devotee. Drunken Camembert and Chilli Chocolate Steak is all I can say... Vibey eclectic tunes, comfy settings and uber friendly staff everything you need for a exhilarating meal!
