The food
Franky’s is an authentic 50s-style diner that’s only been around for two months, yet is already steeped in a fair amount of folklore. Serving mouth-watering hamburgers, foot-long hotdogs, sloppy joes, corn dogs and chips in red baskets, this diner couldn’t be more 1950s if it tried. Try the Chubby Burger Challenge to finish the gargantuan six-patty burger stacked on a roll with cheese, jalapeño peppers, bacon, lettuce, tomato, fried onions, dill pickles and mayo, served with chips, onion rings and coleslaw. This beast is not for ants! The challenge is on the menu at R165, but get it down in 10 minutes or less and it’s free. Plus you get your name on the wall of fame and they throw in a T-shirt so you can brag about it at your next dinner party. Franky’s do not mess around with their burgers. Breadcrumb-free, these are proper all-beef patties that require some serious chewing. 10 minutes is a tough ask.
The drinks
They have homemade lemonade and some soft drinks, but rather go for a proper shake that comes with a little extra in the metal container. Flavours include cotton candy crush, blackberry and dark chocolate, pina colada and candy apple.
The ambience
Red vinyl stools line the counter in the middle of the brightly lit old-school diner that sports cool little booths with very new-school touch screens that can be used to surf the net or catch the game. The giant jukebox will pump out any tune you want at R2 a pop, while the kids get a free spin of candyfloss from hosts Saul and Franky. This place has a seriously cool vibe to it.
And…
The cherry on top was getting cola Wilson’s toffees instead of normal mints with the bill. That’s cool!

  • Always wanted to visit America but can't find the bucks for the airline ticket? Safe the cash and head over to Franky's Diner. As an American now living in Africa, I love my new home but sometimes get a craving for a bit of my birthplace's culture and cuisine. That craving was perfectly satisfied when I found myself eating at Franky's while on holiday earlier this year. From the black-and-white tile floors and jukebox to the yummy burgers and decadent milkshakes, it wonderfully captures the look, feel, and taste of the iconic 50's style diner memorialized in old movies and still found scattered through out the States. And the staff and prices? Both are excellent. The owner was in the night we were there and happily talked to us about why he started the diner and was keen to hear our perspective as Americans. The waiter and cooks went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience. And the prices? Wow! Wish food this good had been this affordable in the States. Actually, Franky's Diner in Africa is perhaps the best example of this American classic that this foodie has ever had the joy of experiencing either here OR back in the land of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley.

  • My recent first visit to Frankys Dinner was a blast from the passed that my entire family enjoyed! With seriously delicious old fashion milkshakes with a new age twists. Gosh the Piggie burger was a sight for the eyes and a feast for the mouth! We so enjoyed the food and the live entertainment and happily left with tummys full!

  • After a looong week, Franky's ended up being just what I needed. My boyfriend and I ended up going for milkshakes after waiting too long in line at Hudson's...and we are so glad we did! The chocolate fudge milkshake was amazing and the dark chocolate and macadamia milkshake took me back, somewhat 12 years back! To top it off we were offered freshly made hot chocolate fudge..not only did I die and go to heaven, I've decided that its totally worth the diabetes I might be getting in the near future! I'm sugar fixed until Christmas!
