Critic's review

One of the few options on Sea Point Beach Road, Harvey’s is the restaurant of the Winchester Mansions hotel, and is therefore open for breakfast, lunch and supper. The lunch menu is a limited version of the dinner menu, offering pastas, salads and sandwiches. There is an extensive ‘from the grill’ offering of seafood and meat.

A good selection which should cater for most palates.

Friendly and competent: the benefits of hotel training. There is usually a manager around to check that things are running smoothly.

The restaurant has an elegant summery feel, with a view of the ocean. There is also the option of dining in the beautiful open courtyard.

Harvey’s is well known for its jazz brunch on Sundays. (DV, October 2012)

  • Horrible! Honestly, the worst service I've possibly ever experienced. People didn't receive food at all, they brought starters after the main courses, one half of our group was completely done with their food before the other half had received the few starters that were actually delivered. On top of all of it, when we spoke to the manager about it, she didn't apologize at all or try to make it right. And, in the middle of the meal, we could hear her screaming at her staff in a fully abusive manner. Cape Town has way too many fabulous restaurants to waste your time or money here!

  • What a huge disappointment. We ordered the Fois gras which was way too creamy and lacked flavour. The mains were even more disappointing. The jus had a bitter taste and was reduced way too much. The rosti was soggy. The fillet was over cooked. The nut crusted springbok was not a crust at all and the croissant flan was tasteless and dry. When you charge a R160 for a main please make sure you are serving 5 star food. The only thing good was the decor and service.
