Owner's description

Knead is an artisan bakery and neighbourhood café. This bakery cafe offers bakde bread, pastries and confectionery on-site, every day, using traditional techniques to ensure that customers get everything oven-fresh.

Knead bakery cafés offer a simple, but versatile menu that uses only wholesome, local ingredients served in a relaxed, rustic setting. Started in 2006 with the first bakery café in Wembley Square, Knead has since expanded to add more outlets across the Cape Town area.

We usually go to Knead on Kloof St but we tried this once on 25 May 2019. Unfortunately, it must have been a bad day because we got violently ill and it could have only been from here. The mushrooms that were served with the breakfast were extremely garlicky and oh my goodness, what was that hiding I wonder ... Will stick with Kloof St Knead next time because it's always busy.
The manager of this establishment does not appear to appreciate the meaning of customer service, which is not just about selling food and drinks. I needed something on which to place my laptop, a rather simple matter that any able and willing person would be able to solve in no time at all. Instead, the customer's need seems to have been viewed as a nuisance. The customer, who was already having a bad hair day, thereupon decided to look for a friendlier place to spend his money. I will not darken your doorstep again, sir.
The bread and coffee and pastries and food are all fine, but certainly not comparable to Jason’s, Woodstock and the many other fantastic bakeries Cape Town has to offer. Knead is a bit like the McDonald’s of bakeries: it’s no one’s favourite, but it’s so ubiquitous and sometimes you’re hungry and just can’t be bothered to find somewhere better. The menu has undergone some changes recently, but still fails to stir up any real excitement. My advice is to stick with the basic eggs, bacon and bread combos. These are very decent and the backbone of Knead. The coffee is… fine. In all the Kneads I’ve ever visited, service is consistently dismal- Wembley is no exception. If you don’t mind long faces and long waits, it might not bother you. Maybe it’s part of the brand? All that being said, when hunger strikes post Virgin Active workout, Knead Wembley is an okay place to eat. Stick to the basics and you will have a meal that, while unremarkable, will certainly quash your workout hunger.
Wembley Square is a great place to go with kids on a wintery Saturday, as there is a kids play area, which you can see from Knead. The food at Knead is always good - I had a fantastic eggs benedict (although service can be a little slow).
The food is AMAZING and I have only been greeted with a friendly and welcoming smile! Definitely worth it. The waiting time for takeaways may be a bit slow at times, but as I said, it is very worth it.
