El Burro

We had a fab girls' night at El Burro last week. Wine selection was a bit of a challenge as none of us had heard of the wines on offer, but we settled on the Fist of Fancy pinot noir which went perfectly with chat and Mexican food! We share chilli poppers to start - what a great change from the usual fried greasy poppers: these were grilled with a great smokey flavour and good kick of chilli. For main course most of us had the pulled pork tacos, which were so delicious, although I thought extra coriander would have been good for a bit of freshness. The serving was generous with 3 smallish filled tacos in the portion, and the pork flavourful. It wasn't particularly spicy, but there was an array of bottled sauces on the table if you needed a bit of extra oomph. I can't help but order a Don Pedro whenever possible, and El Burro's version was deliciously thick and generous! Service was friendly and good, and the meal reasonably-priced. Can't wait till El Burro's taco bar opens in Kloof Street!
