La Terrasse Rooftop Café & Deli

I asked around where an out of the ordinary eating place was in Pretoria that was close to the highway and easy to find where I could treat my school friend that I have not seen for years. The doctor’s receptionist suggested La Terrasse Rooftop Café and commented that it was very different but the best place to “kuier” that she knows of. I realised that I have driven past the landmark tower with the red flags for years without realising that this gem existed. There was ample secure parking and while I waited for my friend I took a stroll through the import shop display room and I was in awe of the beautiful light fittings. When we did our exercise for the day climbing the staircase to the top I was greeted by Joseph the head waiter who welcomed us with a traditional rosewater hand wash. All the tables had fresh flower arrangements and the imported snack olives that we were offered is the tastiest I have ever had. We both love chicken livers and Moroccan spiced chicken livers were on specials for the day as well as a Moroccan spiced wine. We ordered both as a kick off. The chicken livers were served with spiced Moroccan Flatbread and we polished it off in no time. DELICIOUS! The cauliflower soup with saffron and edam cheese was chosen by my friend and she loved the rich smooth flavour. I had the harira soup which was thick and wholesome, and I thought I’ll be daring and order the Moroccan Handburger whereas my friend ordered the Butternut tagine served with couscous. A napkin was tied around my neck and I was told to approach eating the handburger like eating a watermelon. I loved it and my vegetarian friend admitted that this was the tastiest vegetarian dish she has ever eaten in a restaurant. We shared a slice of Sheklat chocolate tart with chilli served with rose cream and we both agreed that we should come back soon and try out more of the delicacies.
