The Green Peppercorn Bistro

A bistro with a difference... I LOVED ALL OF IT... So as a surprise and first date, not knowing where I was being taken, butterflies and excitement and an appetite (I mean who we kidding I love food, date or no date I'm going to come hungry) I was so excited when we drove into Morningside Shopping Centre, having been to Signature, I knew all the restaurants were good. As we approached the Green Pepper Corn, I was nervous that my heels may not fit the vibe, but hey when in Morningside anything goes. We were greeted by the friendly waiter who seated us and told us Mike would be our waiter.... I'm going to get back to the food in a bit but first I have to complement Mike, or "magic mike" he was amazing!!! he knew the wines he had me listening to every word when he was describing the chef's recommendations of the evening, at one stage I think a little drool came out as he made it all sound so mouth watering. We also had "squirrel" (he told us his real name to, but said we would not be able to pronounce it due to the clicks) who made sure our wine glasses were never empty and to be honest our entertainment for the evening.. Also hats off :) Then the food.... We shared the prawn tampurer that had a fennel puree and roasted artichokes, my mouth begins to water all over again... it was so delicious, the fennel gave it a sweet taste, and replaced the generic sweet chilli vibe, which I loved. Main's I had the Duck, on a GIANT ravioli, that was filled with poached pear and more duck, there was duck liver pate which was as creamy as anything and a jus, that just brought the entire thing together. the duck was cooked to perfection. My date had the Beef Wellington with smoked cream cheese (who would have thought to smoke cream cheese) genius. I had a small taste but my duck I think still took first prize. The food was presented so beautifully that it was tough to eat it and then when you do and all the flavours come together, you just mmmmmmmm. Dessert, well all the dessert looked amazing and I will have to go back to try the basil ice cream, my eyes were bigger than my stomach and so we decided to share the lindt bon bons (first date you don't want to look like you can eat a horse, maybe date 6) but oh my goodness I woke up this morning still thinking of the phyllo pastry deep fried lindt bon bons with vanilla dipping sauce, really out of this world!!!! This place made me realise why I am so happy to be in this industry, because although it is as simple as a bistro their food, their service, their setting, their wine selection... It all comes together just right.
