There’s no shortage of restaurants in Monte Casino, but it’s great to find a spot with good-quality food and options to please all palates. Some fantastic antipasti sharing platters are a great way to start for a big table; there are four different focaccia options that are good for sharing. If you would prefer a lighter starter, there are other easy options like the springbok carpaccio or caprese salad with yummy buffalo mozzarella.
For mains, the pizzas are thin-based and cooked in a wood-fire oven. You can design your own or choose from the list that includes a range of interesting toppings – deboned roast lamb shank being one of them. Pizza bases can be changed to wheat-free or banting, and vegan cheese is an option.
The pasta is made fresh daily and there’s a great selection of sauces to choose from – pastas can be swapped for zucchini spaghetti or gluten-free pasta. For something really different, ask about the pasta cooked in a parmesan wheel – a chef will come and prepare your pasta at your table in a huge hollowed-out wheel of parmesan cheese. If you’re looking for something a bit meatier, there’s a great selection of steaks.
Don’t forget to leave space for the decadent selection of desserts – keep a look out for the limoncello cheesecake and the Eton mess.
An extensive wine list is available, offering a good selection of champagne, MCC,and red and white wines. Wine pairings are suggested with a number of the meals on the menu. There’s also a great cocktail list.
Very friendly and welcoming. Waiters are attentive and helpful.
The restaurant picks up on the buzz of people walking through the centre. You can choose to sit on the walkway and people-watch or, if you prefer to sit inside the restaurant, it’s a little quieter.
