Owners description

Caribbean supermodel Mala Bryan is turning up the island vibe on the Cape Town restaurant beat with the opening of Kwéyòl Restaurant and Bar.

A melting pot of Creole flavours, colours and island music, this new Afro-Caribbean eatery is situated in a tropical jungle at Botanik Social House, the newly revamped events venue opposite the Company’s Garden in Queen Victoria Street. Botanik Social House is a new addition to Giorgio Nava’s restaurant group alongside his 95 and Carne collections.

Kwéyòl, the Caribbean word for Creole, is inspired by Mala’s childhood memories growing up on the island of St Lucia. By recreating a piece of her home and serving her favourite island food, Mala wants to transport Kwéyòl guests to the Caribbean.

  • What can be said about this amazing restaurant that hasn't already been said. Food is out of this world, delicious, scrumptious, wow, I think all these words have been used. The vibe is great, it's a nice chilled restaurant where you can have a nice meal with family or friends, and is perfect for a date night, especially on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday, this amazing restaurant is situated inside Botanik Social house, so as I said, it the perfect place for date night, take your lady for dinner and dancing. The staff, what can I say about the amazing staff. They are super attentive and so friendly. Hands down one of my most favorite restaurants in Cape Town.

  • Such an amazing restaurant. Best Caribbean food I have ever had. All the dishes I have tried are so tasty. Slowly working my way through the menu. I love that there are so many vegetarian dishes to choose from. So far the curried chickpeas are my favorite. Looking forward to trying the curried beef next.

  • For some authentic Caribbean food, you simply must give Kweyol a try. As I am writing this review, my mouth is watering for some jerk chicken with a side of fried potatoes. The food is full of flavor. There is just now words to describe how amazing the food is.

  • Good vibe, very friendly and attentive staff. I could not decide what I wanted to eat, everything on the menu just sounded so yummy. The lamb neck was out of this world. The drinks were amazing. Everything was very well priced. I would recommend this beautiful restaurant to anyone in Cape Town or visiting Cape Town.

  • If you think there’s any other place like Kwéyòl, you’re wrong. Kwéyòl is such a unique restaurant in Cape Town, that try as you might, you won’t try any other place like it. Situated in Botanik Social House in the CBD, when you step into Kwéyòl, you get a feeling of being at home. Being indoors, but outdoors. It feels like a little escape from the streets of Cape Town. Mala Bryan, the girlboss behind Kwéyòl, puts so much passion into her meals, and prepares everything with the highest amount of love. You can taste the homecooked feel in her meals, as every bite is packed to the brim with flavour. We tried the curried corn and fried chicken wings for starters and omg. You might want to order extra chips because the sauce of the curried corn is amazing! PS: Feel free to lick the bowl! For mains, we went for the lamb neck stew and the grilled chicken wings. From presentation to taste, each meal felt like you were in a Caribbean kitchen on a tropical island, with Afro influences, eating a fresh homecooked meal. Kwéyòl is a must for every local and tourist in Cape Town, and I can’t wait to go back and enjoy more of Mala’s meals!
