Outstanding food, great wine, great location.

My boyfriend and I enjoy good wine, and we have always enjoyed Rupert & Rothschild wines, so we were very excited when we stumbled upon their beautiful farm in Franshoek. The waitress was very attentive to our taste for wine and brought us only the best to taste. The menu that was given to us only had the prices of the bottles on it, and not once was any price of tasting mentioned to us, thus we presumed it was free- as many wine tastings are if you purchase wine. Whilst tasting, we got rather peckish, and the waitress suggested a cheese plate- again, no mention of the price. We chose two of the more affordable bottles to take home (R150/bottle) as well as a bottle of olive oil (R 95). When the bill came we were shocked. R 800- the price of an extravagant lunch at any good restaurant!!! When we examined the slip, we were shocked to see we had been charged per glass for wine tasting and R 190 for a cheese plate!!! We enquired about the cheese, and the manager informed us it was cheese imported from France. My boyfriend, being French, commented that the cheese was plasticey tasting and definitely not of French origin. Although delicious wine, Rupert & Rothschild is not worth the visit!!! They are clearly trying to milk their customers for all that they are worth.

Rupert & Rothschild what a Splendid place to enjoy lunch on any season - quite good wines and the food is fantastic, the grounds are breathtaking. The service, ambience and setting is outstanding. A must see while you visiting Cape Winelands. Easy to access via R45 from N1.

My husband and I decided to try a new dining experience and were very pleased that we had chosen Rupert and Rothschild which is situated in the Cape Winelands. We loved the fact that it was sophisticated and elegant dining...and yet so cosy and comfortable. The R&R Baroness Nadine wine and Champagne Barons de Rothschild Brut are delectable and I would definitely recommend it. We thoroughly enjoyed the Confit Pasture-Reared Pork Belly which was served with dainty vegetables. Our compliments go to the Sous Chef, Arista Du Plessis. It was truly a very enlightening and enjoyable experience.
