The Meat Company (Montecasino)

How sad that this restaurant has fallen so hard. For years it has been a staple at Montecasino, offering good old-fashioned steakhouse fare. So naturally when me and my husband were looking for somewhere to eat on a weekday night, we decided we couldn't go wrong with the Meat Company. Well, we were certainly wrong. We greeted by the hostess and we were taken to a table and given menus. The table was almost bare, with not even a napkin in site. The waitress took ages to get to our table and when she did arrive, there was no polite greeting, just a surly "To drink?" Sensing we may be in for a wait, we ordered drinks and mains at once. I ordered the bunless burger which has always been a favourite there. I ordered blue cheese topping. I was brought the bunless burger with undercooked brinjal and pepper sauce on the side. We were in a hurry as we were seeing a movie afterwards, so I thought against sending it back. However, my husband's steak was so rare it was practically blue, after he had ordered it medium. So it had to be sent back to be cooked longer. Good thing a manager came to check on us, because our waitress disappeared the whole time we were there. I see the restaurant was redecorated since last I was there. Their winelist is also impressive. However, perhaps some more care and attention should be given to getting the basics right. Looking forward to when we see The Meat Company go back to its former (good) self.
