Tucked into Marine Walk Shopping Centre in Sibaya, eMdloti, The Room is a new dining destination brought to life by the team from Eat Out star restaurant Tyler’s – known for its high-quality grilled meats.

The concept behind The Room centres on intimacy, says the team. “A space designed to feel considered, contained and quietly immersive from the moment you step inside. It moves away from the scale and pace of traditional dining, favouring something more personal: lower-lit, detail-driven and intentionally layered to draw you in. The beauty of the name lies in its openness. It invites curiosity, encourages discovery and leaves just enough unsaid – because what happens inside The Room is something best experienced, not explained.”

At the helm is head chef Suhail Rampersadh, whose cooking philosophy is uncomplicated: flavour first, without the fuss. His approach leans on balance, letting quality ingredients speak clearly while building depth through technique, seasoning and thoughtful pairings.

The kitchen has also benefited from the expertise of chef Katlego Mlambo, who consulted on the menu – which draws from French bistro traditions with a local edge. Guests can expect items like Cape Malay prawns, truffle tortellini and a wagyu sando, while the indulgent Tyler’s dip and steak frites, finished tableside, is a showstopper. A dedicated wagyu selection caters to those chasing something more elevated, and the bottomless chocolate mousse offers a playful, indulgent dessert option.

Celebrated interior designer Tristan du Plessis whose creativity is behind Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant of the Year, FYN and Eat Out VISI Style Award winner, Amura, has crafted a space inspired by vintage recording studios – think rich textures, sculptural surfaces and a curated interplay of light and shadow.
