We chatted with Ivor to get some words of wisdom for those coming up in the industry:
What advice would you offer aspiring chefs aiming for culinary excellence and recognition in today’s competitive industry?
Learn to walk before you run. I find so many young chefs are in a hurry to grow fast and want to be a head chef in a few years. But without the time spent cooking and learning, they will be left lacking depth.
How would you describe your leadership style in the kitchen, and how do you motivate your team?
I’d say I lead with drive and passion for what we are all doing. We treat people like people and push each other and support each other in our daily adventures in our restaurant and life.
What values or principles are most important to you as a chef and a leader in the culinary industry?
Cook food that makes you happy. Treat everyone in your team with love and respect. Always be true to your core values.
As a role model in the industry, how do you mentor or inspire the next generation of chefs?
By leading by example and teaching accountability, and always being fair.
What qualities do you believe are essential for success in this industry, beyond culinary skills?
High energy, patience, self-driven, willingness to learn. And a pure love for food in all its forms.
