The Bakery at Babylonstoren

The Bakery on the beautiful Babylonstoren farm offers a set Italian menu on Friday evenings. To start with, we were served a beautiful platter of fresh fruit and vegetables harvested from the garden on the farm. Beautiful beetroot, artichokes, leeks, grapes and olives to name few were accompanied by parma ham and fior di latte cheese as well as a ceasar salad and bread. Next course was a bowl of homemade, creamy mushroom pasta. On a cold night, it was comforting and delicious. Next course was pizza. The serving staff walk around with a variety of freshly baked pizzas and you simply help yourself to as many slices as you would like. All the combinations were delicious and the chef was more than happy to comply by making additional vegetarian pizzas. Dessert options on the night was a malva pudding with a white chocolate yoghurt sauce, tiramisu affogato and fresh guavas roasted with whole star anise, pink peppercorns and served with vanilla bean ice cream. The malva pudding was a bit disappointing and tasted more like vanilla cake but the roasted guavas were delicious. The estate wines are available by the glass or the bottle and I can highly recommend the rosé. Along with this there is homemade lemonade and ginger beer as well as a few craft beers. Price per person is R340 and booking is essential. Service staff were incredibly friendly and efficient. An allround wonderful experience.
